Smart Spaces & Social Robots

Principal Investigators:

Project Summary:

The goal of the Smart Spaces and Social Robots Project is to develop computer vision technology to enable detailed parsing of human activities and recognition of high-level intentions and goals. While recent methodologies are capable of recognizing simple actions such as walking, jumping, etc., computer vision systems still lack the ability to understand high-level human behaviors, intentions and goals. As an example, we would like a computer vision system to answer this question: has this customer the intent to buy this product or is he/she only browsing?

This technology has important applications in customer-oriented intelligent platforms that range from online shopping to smart homes.
